Grant Description
The NFRP Investigator-Initiated Focused Research Award mechanism was first offered in FY10 with 16 Investigator-Initiated Focused Research Award applications received, and 3 recommended for funding. The NFRP Investigator-Initiated Focused Research Award supports basic and clinically oriented research that will: ╔к_ Provide insight into the development of NF and Schwannomatosis, ╔к_ Result in substantial improvements over today╔к_s approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of NF and/or Schwannomatosis, and ╔к_ Have an impact on the quality of life of persons with those diseases. Research Focus Areas: Applications for this mechanism must address one or more of the following areas as they relate to NF and/or Schwannomatosis: ╔к_ Pain ╔к_ Wound repair ╔к_ Nerve regeneration ╔к_ Stress and inflammation ╔к_ Cognitive dysfunction Applications must include preliminary data that is relevant to NF and/or Schwannomatosis and the proposed project. Optional Qualified Collaborator: The FY11 NFRP strongly supports collaborative research between basic scientists and clinical researchers, and between academic scientists and biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry scientists. Collaborations that bring new perspectives from other disciplines, or bring new investigators into the NF field are also strongly encouraged.
