Grant Description
The Burned Areas Rehabilitation (BAR) program at the Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuge implements action plans that rehabilitate and restore land after wildfires. The two primary objectives of these BAR projects are 1) to reduce invasive grass cover to less than 5%; and 2) to establish a dense cover of native tree, shrub and understory species sufficient to impede reestablishment of invasive grasses, and reduce the consequent risk of wildlife. The approved BAR projects include herbicide application, native seedling production, seedling transplanting and other site preparation and seed collection.
