Grant Description
The Office of Press and Public Diplomacy of the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs (SCA) of the U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for a cooperative agreement to administer the Empowering Women in IT program. This program seeks to help young women in the countries of South and Central Asia to use their technical skills and abilities in the IT field to obtain employment or pursue entrepreneurial activities. The countries of South and Central Asia are: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. This program reflects and supports the foreign policy goals of the United States. SCA seeks proposals from nonprofit organizations for the development and implementation of this program. Proposals can focus on helping young women gain employment at existing IT or technology firms, on helping young women establish their own IT or technology firms, or both of these areas. To this end, applicants are expected to help program participants gain soft or business skills, such as interviewing, networking, leadership, and/or business planning. This program is not intended to provide training in technical IT skills such as programming, coding, or network administration.
