Grant Description
Purpose. This FOA being issued by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health, solicits applications from Minority-Serving Institutions that propose to establish research centers to augment and strengthen research capabilities and resources in biomedical and behavioral research related to heart, lung, blood, and sleep diseases and disorders. The program is intended to occur in two phases: Phase I (the recruitment/retention phase and establishment of the External Advisory Board, 2 years) and Phase II (the development of the research program and research operations, 5 years). This FOA is intended to support Phase I only. Support for the Phase II limited competition is dependent upon success in Phase I, and a separate FOA for Phase II will be released at a later date. Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the NIH Core Center Grant (P30) mechanism. Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. The NHLBI expects to fund up to 5 research centers totaling $1 million total costs in FY2011.
