Grant Description
The HHS/CDC is seeking a cooperative agreement with multiple partners within the People’s Republic of China to strengthen capacity in China to detect and evaluate existing and emerging infectious diseases and related public health threats; to estimate the burden of certain infectious diseases; to evaluate the acceptability, efficacy and effectiveness of vaccines; and to evaluate other interventions that could reduce the burden of existing and emerging infectious diseases. Higher incidence of and susceptibility to serious infectious diseases in China provide an opportunity to learn more about the epidemiology and preventability of infectious diseases of emerging importance globally, as well as to detect new or re-emerging infectious diseases of potential global importance, including pandemic influenza. This program addresses the “Healthy People 2010” focus area of immunization and infectious diseases.
