Grant Description
Purpose. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is intended to support new investigators on-going basic or clinical alcohol, drug abuse and/or related co-morbidity research. The primary goal of this Support Opportunity for Addiction Research (SOAR) for New is to leverage existing research programs in order to strengthen, possibly expand, and/or further develop alcohol, drug abuse, and co-morbidity research. Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the R03 grant mechanism. Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. The NIAAA and NIDA have set aside $1.2 million in Fiscal Year 2009 to fund 25 to 35 applications. Because the nature and scope of the proposed research will vary from application to application, it is anticipated that the size and duration of each award will also vary. The total amount awarded and the number of awards will depend upon the numbers, quality, duration, and costs of the applications received.
