Grant Description
Purpose. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), issued by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), solicits applications for the development of cancer nanotechnology platforms. This initiative, to be known as the Cancer Nanotechnology Platform Partnerships (CNPPs), is an integral component of a broader program - the NCI Alliance for Nanotechnology in Cancer (The Alliance) (http://nano.cancer.gov). In addition to CNPPs, the Alliance will consist of the Centers of Cancer Nanotechnology Excellence (CCNEs, as the core of the program infrastructure) and two training programs. The CNPPs are designed to enable multi-disciplinary team research and transformative discoveries in basic and pre-clinical cancer research. The proposed individual, circumscribed research projects are expected to address major barriers and/or fundamental questions in cancer biology, diagnosis, prevention, and/or treatment of the disease using innovative nanotechnology solutions. To advance such new nanotechnology discoveries, the proposed platform projects should take advantage of the collaborative environment of the Alliance network. This initiative is open to all qualified applicants regardless of whether or not they participated in the previous issuance of the Alliance program.
