Grant Description
Purpose. The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support and enhance research on the application and use of promising complementary/alternative/integrative medicine (CAM/IM) modalities or approaches in the setting of chronic pain. Specifically, this FOA encourages applications for Centers comprised of three or four synergistic, R01-comparable projects by multidisciplinary research teams focused on the basic, mechanistic, and/or translational research questions that must be addressed in order to better understand the optimal application and use of CAM/IM interventions for treating or ameliorating chronic pain. Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the P01 (Program Project) award mechanism. Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. The total amount of funding that NCCAM expects to award through this announcement will depend upon the quality, duration, and costs of the applications received. It is anticipated that a maximum of three pain-focused CERC, each funded at approximately $1.25 million per year, will be awarded in FY 2011.
