Grant Description
The purpose of the Mucosal Environment and HIV Prevention II (MEHP II) Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to solicit applications that support innovative proof-of-concept/feasibility non-vaccine biomedical prevention (nBP) research needed to support and advance the development of safer and more effective microbicides and Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) strategies. The MEHP II will support innovative, high-risk, hypothesis-driven research that provides a better understanding of how prevention products/drug delivery strategies interact with the micro- and macro-environments of the male and female genital and gastrointestinal (GI) mucosa. This FOA is intended to support innovative biomedical research efforts, which may or may not involve active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), formulation/excipient and/or a device currently under development. This FOA is not intended to support the preclinical or clinical development of new nBP candidates or their delivery systems.
