Grant Description
Purpose. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) issued by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH) invites research applications for projects that will advance development of vaccines against five pathogens that have a significant impact on public health: cytomegalovirus, respiratory syncytial virus, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Clostridium difficile. The formation of collaborative partnerships between academic (or non-profit) researchers from different disciplines or with industry is strongly encouraged, but not required. Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the R01 grant mechanism. Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. The NIAID intends to commit $4.0 million in total costs in FY2010 to fund three to five applications in response to this FOA. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications. Because the nature and scope of the proposed research will vary from application to application, it is anticipated that the size and duration of each award will also vary.
