Grant Description
River Partners is a nonprofit public benefit corporation with the mission to create wildlife habitat for the benefit of people and the environment. Hidden Valley Ranch is a 497-acre property in Stanislaus County, California. It is owned in fee title by River Partners and has a perpetual conservation easement held by the Tuolumne River Trust. The property will be restored to riparian and floodplain habitat types in the coming years. The property holds riparian water rights under diversion # S017293. The existing pump has a maximum pumping capacity of 11 cfs, and is typically used during the irrigation season between March and October. The pump is located immediately adjacent to recently-documented white sturgeon spawning areas in the San Joaquin River, and is located within the migratory pathway for Chinook salmon and Central Valley steelhead (Merced River and main stem San Joaquin River). The objective of this cooperative agreement is to install a fish screen that meets National Marine Fisheries Service fish screen design requirements for salmonids on an existing river pump at the Hidden Valley Ranch property. Providing a fish screen at the pump will allow for continued use of this existing agricultural infrastructure while eliminating the potential for fish entrainment.
