Grant Description
The United States Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) is the implementing agency for the Lower Colorado River Multi-Species Conservation Program (LCR MSCP). The program has a goal of creating over 8,132 acres of native riparian habitat distributed within the LCR MSCP planning boundary. The purpose of this project is to apply native seeding techniques previously identified by the LCR MSCP on a 5 acre parcel on the Laguna Grande restoration site located within the country of Mexico. The proposed is to identify a 5 acre parcel of land within Laguna Grande, determine depth to groundwater and topography of the parcel, and using techniques already identified; collect, store, and apply native cottonwood and willow seeds. Follow-up monitoring and vegetation surveys will determine the effectiveness of the technique for restoration. Seeding as a tool for restoration would be of value to the BOR and the LCR MSCP as well as others interested in restoration. The project will be funded by the BOR utilizing non-LCR MSCP dollars. The scope of work includes the following tasks: Task 1: Fremont Cottonwood and Goodding’s Willow Seed Collection and Preparation Task 2: Site Identification and Preparation Task 3: Hydraulic Analysis and Irrigation Design Task 4: Fremont Cottonwood and Goodding’s Willow Seed Design and Application Task 5: Follow-up Monitoring and Vegetation Surveys
