Grant Description

Purpose. Under this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) requests research project grants (R01) to study how genetic variation affects responses to medications for the treatment of Alcohol Use Disorders (AUD). Both human and animal studies are encouraged to determine the full range of genetic variation affecting both pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic parameters resulting in altered drug efficacy and toxicity. Mechanistic studies using animal models and/or in vitro/ex vivo preparations are also encouraged. Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the R01 grant mechanism. Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. NIAAA has available $2 million in total cost for fiscal year 2011 for this announcement and expects that two to four awards will be made.
