Grant Description

Purpose. The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) and the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) seek research to understand and mitigate issues of health disparities in high priority diseases within their scope, including diabetes, obesity, nutrition-related disorders, hepatitis C, gallbladder disease, H. Pylori infection, sickle cell disease, kidney diseases, urologic diseases, hematologic diseases, metabolic, gastrointestinal, hepatic, and renal complications from infection with HIV.NINR promotes and improves the health of individuals, families, communities, and populations, supports and conducts clinical and basic research and research training on health and illness across the lifespan. Mechanism of Support. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) will utilize the NIH Research Project Grant (R01) award mechanism. Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications. Budget and Project Period. The maximum duration requested for each individual award may not exceed 5 years. Application Research Plan Component Length: The R01 application Research Plan component of the PHS398 may not exceed 25 pages, including tables, graphs, figures, diagrams, and charts. Eligible Institutions/Organizations. Institutions/organizations listed in Section III, 1.A. are eligible to apply. Eligible Project Directors/Principal Investigators (PDs/PIs). Include Individuals with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research are invited to work with their institution/organization to develop an application for support. Individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups as well as individuals with disabilities are always encouraged to apply for NIH support.
