Grant Description
-Purpose.ÊThis Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) issued by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) encourages Research Project Grant (R01) applications on the economics of prevention and treatment services for drug and alcohol abuse.ÊSuch research projects might emphasize any of the following subjects: (1) financing and purchasing of drug and alcohol treatment and prevention services, including studies of health insurance and payment mechanisms; (2)Êeconomic incentives used to improve the quality and economic efficiency of treatment and prevention services (3) alternative delivery systems and managed care; (4) cost-benefit, cost-effectiveness, or cost-utility analyses; (5) service costs, production, and economic efficiency; and (6) research to develop or improve methods to be used in the economic study of drug and alcohol services. -Mechanism of Support.ÊThis FOA will utilize the Research Project Grant (R01) grant mechanism and runs in parallel with a FOA of identical scientific scope, PA-08-173, which encourages applications under the R21 mechanism and PA-08-172 which encourages applications under the R03 mechanism. -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards.ÊAwards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.
