Grant Description
-Purpose. This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) solicits research to expand the application of genetic epidemiologic methods to studies of substance and alcohol use disorders (SUDs/AUD, drug and alcohol abuse and dependence) by applying genetic epidemiologic approaches to advance our understanding of developmental trajectories of SUD/AUD, differentiate genetic and environmental factors in the development and maintenance of SUD/AUD, broaden and refine phenotypic definitions of SUDs/AUD, guide the translation of etiologic findings to treatment, prevention, gene-finding and molecular studies, and meet the methodologic challenges of the field. -Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the NIH Research Project Grant (R01) award mechanism, and runs in parallel with an FOA of identical scientific scope, PA-07-414, that solicits applications under the R03 mechanism and PA-07-415 that solicits applications under the R21 mechanism. -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications.
