Grant Description
-This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits R01 applications to further our understanding of mild and unilateral hearing loss in infants and young children. This includes research on prevention, better diagnostic methods, and treatments for these forms of hearing loss that are often overlooked or minimized. Children with milder forms of hearing loss (e.g., less than 40 dB HL) in one or both ears or any degree of hearing loss in one ear can experience difficulties in the areas of speech, language, behavior, academic, and other aspects of development. -This FOA will utilize the R01 grant mechanism and runs in parallel with an FOA of identical scientific scope, PA-07-037, that solicits applications under the R21 mechanism. -Because the nature and scope of the proposed research will vary from application to application, it is anticipated that the size and duration of each award will also vary. The total amount awarded and the number of awards will depend upon the quality, duration, and costs of the applications received.
