Grant Description

Colorado State UniversityДккs Public Lands History Center team, comprised of faculty and staff, is updating the historical scholarship that informs Scotts Bluff National MonumentДккs current interpretive programs, exhibitions, and collections, continuing work initiated under the first and second phases of this project (CSURM-286). In Phase 2, the Public Lands History Center research team completed a draft of a comprehensive report on the history of Scotts Bluff National Monument, which it submitted on September 14, 2015. In Phase 3, the team will edit and revise this draft of historical essays. The team will also facilitate broader dissemination of its research through community outreach in the Scotts Bluff area, among other historians at public history conferences, and among National Park Service staff. Additionally, the Public Lands History Center team will expand and enhance the project website and digital media, including creating an Esri Story Map as a visual and interactive means of conveying historical research. The Public Lands History Center research team will also follow up with the exhibit team as it writes text and selects photographs and artifacts for the new visitor center/museum exhibits, and will facilitate the exhibit teamДккs use of research findings from Phase 2. This project has a public purpose as it promotes and advances understanding of cultural history of a National Monument unit, while engaging communities, partners, and visitors in shared stewardship.
