Grant Description

This is not a request for applications: The goal of this project is to provide youth with training and work experience in park operations while completing much needed work at the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area (SMMNRA) and the greater Los Angeles area. We seek to partner with the Los Angeles Conservation Corps to provide racially diverse youth with an introduction to park careers and developmental work experience. The primary purpose of the project is to support the Government_s objective to provide opportunities for youth to learn about the environment by spending time working on projects in National Parks. The NPS receives the indirect benefit of completing conservation projects. In addition, work projects will also be completed in the communities that the youth are from in Los Angeles and Oxnard. The project motivates its youth participants to become involved in the natural and cultural resource protection of their communities. The project instills through its programming components, the development of leadership skills in its youth participants and encourages them to share the NPS mission of natural and cultural resource stewardship to others in their communities and beyond. The project assists in the promotion, facilitation, and improvement of peoples_ understanding of natural, recreational and other aspects of the federal, state, and local parks in the SMMNRA
