The museum staff works collaboratively with PRNSA and the Pacific Coast Science and Learning Center to offer pre and post graduate students opportunities to engage in collaborative research projects in the specialized field of Curatorial and Information Sciences. Through this project Interns in the field of museum studies, archives, conservation and other related information sciences have the opportunity to form partnerships that provide professional level experience in the management of collections and museum facilities. Public Purpose: Objects, specimens and archives collections in the museum are the official record of natural and cultural scientific research, park, and human history of the area as stated in, кPoint Reyes National Seashore Scope of Collections Statement, 2005.к The materials in the collections are accessed and used for park visitor interpretation, education, academic and public research. An average of 135 official requests for access to collections are documented and filled each year by museum staff. The results of these requests are used in the production of documentary films, books, online educational materials and websites, exhibits, radio programs and other media and events accessed by a wide public. The project will upgrade the protection and long term preservation of these primary source materials to enhance and ensure future access for the public for continued use.
