This Funding Announcement is not a request for applications. This announcement is to provide public notice of the National Park Service (NPS), intention to fund the following project activities. ABSTRACT Funding Announcement: P11AT32054-R9840110107 Project Title: Permafrost Modeling in Alaska National Parklands Recipient: University of Alaska Fairbanks Principle Investigator: Dr. Vladimir Romanovsky Total Anticipated Award Amount: $371,097.00 Cost Share: N/A New Award Or Continuation: New Anticipated Length of Agreement: 5 Years Anticipated Period of Performance: September 30,2011 ╔к_ September 30, 2015 Award Instrument: Cooperative Agreement Statutory Authority: 16 U.S.C. ╔к_1(g): The National Park Service may in fiscal year 1997 and thereafter enter into cooperative agreements that involve the transfer of National Park Service appropriated funds to State, local and tribal governments, other public entities, educational institutions, and private nonprofit organizations for the public purpose of carrying out National Park Service programs pursuant to section 6305 of title 31 to carry out public purposes of National Park Service programs. CFDA#: 15.944 Substantial Involvement: The National Park Service will provide GIPL with: ╔к_ All vegetation and soil data (GIS layers with attribute data and printed reports) required as model inputs; ╔к_ All available soil and atmospheric climate monitoring data from monitoring stations in the NPS units; ╔к_ Consultation on environmental conditions in the parks and the vegetation and soil GIS data products as needed to interpret the data, convert them into model inputs, and fill in data gaps by expert opinion; ╔к_ Transportation to NPS climate monitoring sites for GIPL personnel on a space-as-available and as-needed basis for installation of supplemental temperature monitoring equipment; or NPS will install the sensors by consultation with GIPL; ╔к_ Standard NPS Safety training and personal protective equipment for any flights provided by NPS; ╔к_ Guidance on the NPS compliance procedures for any fieldwork or sensor installations; ╔к_ Guidance on priorities for geographic areas to model in view of NPS priorities and ongoing improvements in available data; ╔к_ Feedback on the success of preliminary model runs in matching known permafrost conditions; ╔к_ Collaboration as co-authors in written reports;
