Grant Description

OJJDP envisions a nation where our children are healthy, educated, and free from violence. If they come into contact with the juvenile justice system, the contact should be rare, fair, and beneficial to them. OJJDPуs Coordinated Assistance for Statesу project will further this vision by providing states and communities with coordinated resources and training and technical assistance to assist in the planning, establishing, operating, coordinating, and assessing of delinquency prevention, intervention, and juvenile justice systems improvement projects. This program is authorized under section 221 of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act, codified at 42 U.S.C. 5601, et seq. Training and technical assistance topic areas fall under the Title II Formula Grants program areas (see Appendix B, page 27), with emphasis on supporting the following topic areas and/or groups: ╔ State and local ethnic and racial disparities reduction strategies. ╔ State-level compliance monitoring of the core requirements of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act (JJDP Act), which are deinstitutionalization of status offenders (DSO)(42 U.S.C. _223(a)(11), separation (42 U.S.C. _223(a)(12), jail removal (42 U.S.C. _223(a)(13), and disproportionate minority contact (DMC) (42 U.S.C. _223(a)(22). ╔ State advisory groups (SAGs) appointed under the JJDP Act. ╔ State, local, and tribal departments of juvenile justice and corrections, service providers, and private organizations that operate juvenile facilities. ╔ Justice information sharing across juvenile justice, child welfare, mental health, and education systems. ╔ Emergency planning among state, local, and tribal juvenile justice residential facilities based on the principles outlined in Emergency Planning for Juvenile Justice Residential Facilities, www.ncjrs.gov/pdffiles1/ojjdp/234936.pdf.
