Grant Description
The US Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District (USACE) intends to enter into a sole source cooperative agreement with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) for a research study of redband trout as part of the Caspian tern project - Malheur Lake fisheries monitoring. Through this study, USACE can more effectively manage the island constructed for Caspian tern habitat to ensure there are not detrimental effects on redband trout. There are three main tasks associated with this study; to characterize the fish species assemblage of Malheur Lake, to document relative proportion of migratory and non migratory life history types, and to measure lake survival and residence time. In accordance with the Environmental Assessment (EA) conducted in 2011, this study is a coordinated study design with ODFW, USACE, and US Fish and Wildlife Service. Study work contemplated by USACE is a builds upon and uses the data already accumulated by USFWS and ODFW and their respective scientists. The cooperative agreement will be awarded pursuant to USC 2313B п Support of Army civil works program.
