Grant Description
This Funding Announcement is not a request for applications. This announcement is to provide public notice of the National Park Service (NPS), intention to fund the following project activities without competition. The U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service (NPS), plans intends to enter into a Cooperative Agreement with Innovators Educational Foundation (Recipient) to host the 2016 American Solar Challenge (ASC) in order to: 1) engage visitors in interpretive themes concerning sustainability, climate change and their effects on park resources, alternative energy and transportation technology; 2) provide an outstanding educational environment where collegiate participants are challenged and help the NPS connect to visitors; 3) celebrate the NPS Centennial; 4) reach out to new audiences; and 5) highlight resources NPS is charged with protecting and actions NPS is taking toward sustainable operations. Innovators Educational Foundation is a non-profit organization devoted to educational opportunities where students are challenged with Оhands-onм learning experiences in the areas of science, engineering, and technology. The Foundation supports activities that push students to think outside the box and to be innovative with ideas that will lead to developing better solutions to societyмs challenges faced here in U.S. and around the world. The Foundation organizes the American Solar Challenge to provide a unique learning experience that challenges students from higher education to develop an original design solution that addresses areas of energy management, sustainability, transportation, and use of high-tech materials. The multi-state solar car rally charges the participant collegiate engineering teams to design, build and run solar cars for long distances. This experience provides real world experience to the college team. The communities that the ASC pass through have the opportunity to see innovative solar technology and the young innovators utilizing it, developing an awareness of the future of sustainable transportation.
