Grant Description
RECOVERY ACT - Congress has legislated funds to the National Park Service (NPS) under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). These funds are intended for preservation of the natural resources in the park through trail maintenance and repairs along the Wonderland Trail and other trails within Mount Rainier National Park. EARTHCORPS members are provided to the park to gain hands on experience in the environmental field. The members make up crews of seven which will work with NPS trail maintenance crews to gain experience. Earthcorps will provide the crews the transportation, food, camp gear, and personal gear such as pack, rain gear, boots, personal protective gear and equipment to perform the trail work. This award is for one crews of seven to construct trails and complete trail repairs to the standards of the National Park Service. The crew will work on the construction of approximately one mile of trail to replace the flood destroyed Glacier Basin Trail. This crew will work approximately three 9 day tours beginning July 26, 2009 and work no longer than September 30, 2010.
