Grant Description
This Funding Announcement is not a request for applications. This announcement is to provide public notice of the National Park Service (NPS), intention to award the following project activities. OVERVIEW The objective of this Task Agreement is to support and stimulate work and/or education and training opportunities for young adults through collaborative participation in the relocation of the treadway and installation of associated trail structures of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. RECIPIENT INVOLVEMENT 1. To recruit and select crew leaders and crew members to participate in the completion of work described throughout this document. 2. To provide for the safe transportation of participants to and from the work sites and provide subsistence during the tour of duty. 3. Work will consist of: removing vegetation along the trail route, constructing side-hill bench treadway, and installing necessary drainage control structures such as drainage dips and waterbars as well as steps and stairs as determined by the National Park Service technical representative. Approximately 1,500 linear feet of trail will be worked on. 4. Work will be completed in accordance with Appalachian Trail Design, Construction and Maintenance standards. 5. To coordinate work planning, logistics, and quality control with the National Park Service and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. NATIONAL PARK SERVICE INVOLVEMENT 1. To provide general orientation to the Appalachian Trail and trail management. 2. To provide a technical representative, through the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, to be on-site with the SCA crew to assist with specifics of the project as needed. 3. Project planning, location, scope and timing will all be developed in conjunction with and approved by park staff. 4. Provide all tools, materials, and equipment necessary to complete the project to required specifications.
