Grant Description
RECOVERY;Remove Invasive Plants to Preserve Communities around Ly-co-ki-we Trai; INDU 131341A; 14-1035.The Ly-co-ki-we Trail area contains some of the most unique habitats found in the National Lakeshore including forest, savanna, prairie, and wetland. Invasive plants within a 20 acre area surrounding 1.7 miles of trail between 200 E. and 275 E. would be searched and treated by two SCA's beginning in May. The primary species targeted consist of honeysuckle, multiflora rose, Japanese barberry, Oriental bittersweet, burning bush, and olive. Treatment methods would include manual cutting and treating stumps with herbicide, as well as foliar herbicide application. If time allows, additional area surrounding the trail would be treated to serve as a buffer to re-invasion.
