Grant Description
This is not a request for applications, this is just an announcement that NPS has already entered into an agreement with the University of Rhode Island for their work on the Assessment of natural resource conditions at Hopewell Furnace NHS, Gettysburg NMP, and Eisenhower NHS. The following are the actions the cooperator will take: ╔ Rely upon existing datasets and current literature on biotic and abiotic natural resources within and immediately adjacent to these parks and present these findings within a GIS-based framework. ╔ To maintain a standardized approach in presenting the condition assessment in a GIS-based framework the Environmental Data Center (EDC) at the University of Rhode Island will be assisting with the development of GIS-based products for the NRCAs. ╔ Group each parkуs natural resources into biological and physical resources. Within each of these groupings individual natural resource areas that are relevant to the park and the parkуs resources management objectives (e.g., forest community, avian community, air quality) will be highlighted. ╔ Identify metrics for each natural resource area and existing data to assess reference and current conditions and trends. ╔ Summarize threats to the resource and any data gaps will be identified. ╔ Provide a statement of confidence in the data used to assess the resource. ╔ When appropriate, present data in a geo-spatial framework. ╔ Present a summary table to convey the results concurrent with Mid-Atlantic Network (MIDN) Inventory and Monitoring state of the parks reporting criteria and symbology.
