Grant Description
In addition to the draft reports and final submission, the Cooperator will: ╔ Conduct field seasons in summer 2013 between 15 May and 15 July. ╔ Conduct daytime road transect surveys by car three times per week in late May and early June during daylight and nighttime surveys twice per week. ╔ Survey approximately every 3 п 4 hours. ╔ Identify and count all other migratory bird, small mammal, and reptile carcasses encountered on the roadway to facilitate recordkeeping of such mortalities for GUIS. ╔ Place adult and juvenile quail carcasses (received frozen from raptor food suppliers) on the road at random locations during each survey, to increase our sample size for estimating carcass scavenging rates. ╔ Conduct band resighting surveys, three times/week, in all potential Snowy Plover habitat to search for Snowy Plovers banded in previous years at GUIS and other sites in the Panhandle. ╔ Capture any unmarked adult SNPL on nests and uniquely mark them with 2 colored plastic bands.
