Grant Description
The purpose of the National Institute of Justice Research, Evaluation, and Development Projects Grants program is to encourage and support research, development, and evaluation to improve criminal justice policy and practice in the United States. With this solicitation, NIJ seeks proposals to fund research to assist it in developing improved methods for testing the performance of body armor. This solicitation specifically seeks proposals for research to support the revision of NIJ Standard–0115.00 Stab Resistance of Personal Body Armor. It also seeks proposals for research to determine the effect of wearing “soft” armor on the core body temperature of the individual wearing it. Authorizing Legislation: Title I of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (sections 201 and 202); Homeland Security Act of 2002 (section 232).
