Grant Description
The purpose of this Cooperative Agreement (Agreement) is to continue the ongoing habitat monitoring, habitat restoration, weed control, and native plant rearing efforts for the Palos Verdes Blue Butterfly and Coastal California Gnatcatcher for Defense Fuel Support Point, San Pedro, California as follows. All work will be consistent with the 2010 Biological Opinion. a. Habitat monitoring, with primary focus on the Palos Verdes blue butterfly (PVB) host plant deerweed. b. Habitat enhancement, particularly removal of exotic pest plant species such as ice plant and disturbance/scraping of potential habitat to increase deerweed populations. c. Native plant seed collection and plant propagation for habitat restoration. d. Propagation of suitable host plant material for the PVB rearing program (conducted under a separate cooperative agreement.) e. Provide reports which document the current yearуs efforts and place them into a historical context with previous yearsу work, long term goals, and regulatory guidance.
