Grant Description
This Agreement will be focused on increasing the level of monitoring and research on this California Least Tern (Sternula antillarum browni) breeding colony within the Naval Weapons Station, Seal Beach (Station) and Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge (SBNWR). The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the U.S. Navy (Navy) are cooperatively managing the existing colony. The increased monitoring of nesting success, banding of young and some adults, analysis of the breeding success relative to other colonies and past data will greatly increase the site database and also serve to supplement regional information collected regarding known, banded birds from this and other colonies. Data are to be presented in two formats: a written scientific report (both paper and electronic forms); and electronic raw data using Microsoft EXCEL software running on IBM AT compatible computers.
