This is a notice of intent to award Pacific State Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC) up to $272,111 under justification 505 DM2.14 (B4). The Water Resources Development Act of 1976, Public Law 94-587 and Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act, 16 U.S.C. 661-666 authorizes and directs the US Fish & Wildlife Service, Lower Snake River Compensation Plan Office (LSRCP) to work with other State and Federal agencies, Indian tribes to develop and implement a program to evaluate survival and harvest of fish release on the lower Snake River. PSMFC is uniquely qualified as they work within the LSRCP facilities in the state of Idaho.

Grant Description

To properly evaluate the compensation effort, adult returns to facilities, spawning areas, and fisheries that result from hatchery releases. Assist Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) in evaluating the success of the LSRCP program s: 1. Assist in summarizing and estimating adult Chinook salmon and steelhead harvest in the main stem Columbia River fisheries and to determine migration timing through the various fisheries; 2. Assist in estimating the number of hatchery and wild/natural fish returning to the project area in Idaho. The timing and distribution of the marked hatchery and wild stocks in Idaho recreational fisheries will be analyzed to develop annual harvest management plans. Harvest data will be coupled with hatchery return data to provide an estimate of returns from LSRCP releases; and 3. Assist with excising tags from snouts, reading tags, uploading data to the Regional Mark Information System (RMIS), and maintaining the information in a manner accessible to the interested parties.
