Grant Description
The current direction from the Director of the BLM is to utilize native species for re-vegetation of disturbed sites. In addition, there is recent emphasis placed on planting native species that will attract pollinator species without drawing them away from native species. The Seeds of Success (SOS) program has been collecting native seed in small quantities from around the state since 2009 to develop a seed bank for native seed source. The BLM and the Plant Material Center have not been able to develop a successful seed increase for forb species which would be attractive to pollinator species. Seeds developed through this program would be used as base seed for commercial nursery growers to develop larger quantities of desirable species it be included in future native seed mixes for re-vegetation projects for the public as well as BLM.
