For this project, the BLM in California will work with one or two partners in Mediterranean landscapes on three aspects essential to building agency capactity to manage public land while taking into account climate change: supporting the integration of local and regional planning and scenario modeling of forest, chaparral, and or riparian ecosystems; designing and implementing landscape conservation actions that facilitate uninterrupted delivery of ecosystem services and conservation protections for wildlife and ecological communities; and monitoring selected biological and water resources that serve as sentinel indicators to inform BLM managers when ecological conditions have reached threshold conditions requiring concerted management response.
