Grant Description

The mission of the CESU Network is to promote, conduct, and provide research, technical assistance and education services nationwide in support of the missions of participating federal agencies and their partners concerning natural and cultural resource management on federal and/or private lands and waters. To achieve this mission, each CESU project is cooperative with substantial involvement by and benefits to federal and nonfederal partners. Each project must also be consistent with the mission of the individual CESU through which it is administered. The Californian Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit, Cooperative and Joint Venture Agreement, Master California agreement number L13AC00082, therefore, restricting eligibility to Public and State controlled Institutions of Higher Education.Identifying and resolving knowledge gaps and uncertainties about the archaeological record has become a paramount concern for the BLM in the agencyкs mission to manage cultural resources. BLMкCA is, therefore, entering into the TAARP with CSU-Sacramento, ARC, to conduct archaeological research on neglected topics that have received little investigation in the intervening decades. The main objective of this partnership is to generate key archaeological information not otherwise easily obtained by standard compliance projects to better inform the BLM in comprehensive, proactive planning for cultural resources.
