Grant Description

This project will involve the study of various culturalresources throughout New Mexico, including prehistoric and historic archaelogical sites and National Historic Trails. These studies may entail collection of oral histories, archaeological inventory, testing and excavation, site restoration, research, artifact and data analysis, development of educational and interpretive materials, and development of public outreach activities and events. Volunteers will be utilized for this work to the greatest extent possible. Trained and experienced volunteers enrich the types of studies envisioned under this agreement. Youth programs, including programs will be geared specifically toward youth with a focus on outdoor activities such as archaeological fieldwork and talks and tours to actual trail and historic resources. Thes project is not required for any compliance aspect of BLM and no deliverable is required. This work will support proactive cultural resource management activities that meet the public outreach objectives of BLM's cultural resources and National Historic Trails management programs. The first project under this agreement will consist of collection of oral history data pertinent to the Sabinosa Wilderness Area in the Taos Field Office.
