Grant Description
The recipient will conduct surveys, monitoring and other means necessary to guide recovery actions for the Kern Primrose Sphinx moth on BLM land and other federal property. The surveys and monitoring involves five related projects. 1. Continuing surveys for the moth (Euproserpinus euterpe) in the field to better understand current distribution. 2. Development of a pheromone lure to make future surveys more effective. 3. Investigation of the parasites and parasitoids that might influence population dynamics. 4. Develop a first-pass environmental model (Maxent) to guide future surveys and potential reintroduction attempts. 5. Characterize the genetic status of the species relative to sister taxa.
