Grant Description
The Strategy encompasses an area in northeastern California and Northwestern Nevada including 6.5 million acres. Within the planning area, the predominant range site is a sagebrush grassland which is often referred to as sagebrush steppe. The health of this ecosystem is being severely impacted by encroaching western juniper. In order to reverse this downward trend in rangeland health, the Strategy proposes a variety of treatment methods to remove encroaching juniper. A total of 1.2 million acres of juniper encroachment are expected to be treated over the next 50 years.
