This announcement is to provide public notice of the National Park Service (NPS), intention to fund the following project activities. ABSTRACT Funding Announcement:J9815100613 Project Title: CESU - Quantify the Frequency and Severity of Interactions between Cruise Ships and Humpback Whales in Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve Recipient:University of Alaska Southeast Principle Investigator:Dr. Sanjay Pyare Total Anticipated Award Amount:$100,000 annually Cost Share:N/A New Award Or Continuation:New CESU award Anticipated Length of Agreement:5 Years Anticipated Period of Performance:May 15, 2010 – April 15, 2015 Award Instrument:Cooperative Agreement/CESU Statutory Authority: 16 U.S.C. Section 1g: The National Park Service may in fiscal year 1997 and thereafter enter into cooperative agreements that involve the transfer of National Park Service appropriated funds to State, local and tribal governments, other public entities, educational institutions, and private nonprofit organizations for the public purpose of carrying out National Park Service programs pursuant to section 6305 of title 31 to carry out public purposes of National Park Service programs. CFDA# and 0.00 Not Elsewhere Classified - CESU Title: Single Source Justification Criteria Sited: Continuation This is a continuation of a project initiated in 2008 in which the partnership between UAS and NPS has been highly successful. Existing funds are in place for further employment by a spatial analyst at UAS from funds in a grant awarded to the UAS and the NPS. Initiation by any other entity would require significant delays in terms of understanding and developing logistical protocols and data analysis, and would have significant impacts on the effectiveness and efficiency for implementation of this ongoing project.
