Grant Description
The MCH Navigator Program is designed to strengthen the knowledge, skills, and capacity of the MCH workforce through online continuing education tailored to meet the needs of emerging and practicing MCH professionals.Ф This program supports HRSA Strategic Plan 2010-2015 goals to improve access to quality health care and services, strengthen the health workforce, and improve health equity. Federal, state, and local MCH agencies are tasked with improving the health of all U.S. women, children, and families. ФAccomplishing this requires resourceful and innovative leaders who can work across disciplines and across systems, particularly given the changes in our healthcare delivery system and todayмs environment of intractable health disparities.Ф MCH professionals, including Title V Directors and staff, require access to continuous training in critical MCH topics and skills in order to most effectively implement Title V transformation and identified state workforce needs.Ф The Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) is committed to advancing the knowledge and skills of practicing MCH professionals.Ф Current barriers to continuing education include ever-tightening travel restrictions, capacity shortages, difficulty in taking time away from work, and the cost of training.Ф Distance learning education methodologies can address these barriers by providing effective and efficient means by which MCH professionals can practice and advance their analytic, managerial, and clinical skills while continuing to meet their daily on-site responsibilities.
