Grant Description
The US Geological Survey is offering a funding opportunity for research to reduce uncertainty surrounding the backfilling of canals Restoration of the south Florida natural system is a massive and complex undertaking with numerous socio-ecological challenges. The ultimate goal is the hydrologic restoration of the quantity, quality, timing, and distribution of water deliveries to the primary landscape features (e.g., cypress forests, sawgrass sloughs, marl prairies, and mangrove estuaries) while maintaining drainage, flood control, water retention, water supply, irrigation, and transportation. The DECOMP Physical Model (DPM) is a large-scale field study to address scientific, hydrologic, and water management issues related to two DECOMP uncertainties; the ecological need to backfill canals and the ecological benefit of flow.
