Grant Description

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Science Application for Risk Reduction (SAFRR) and WGSC is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for an evaluation of the HayWired scenario. The purpose of the evaluation is to ensure that the project has measurable objectives and remains focused on fulfilling the objectives. The awardee will systematically evaluate the attainment of a few selected project objectives because it will not be possible to evaluate all objectives within budget constraints. The evaluator will supply criteria for evaluating objectives, propose a range of data collection approaches, and the capacity for evaluations that are documented in reports and/or powerpoint formats. The evaluation will determine how broadly the objectives were applied by the targeted user community in terms of increased awareness, knowledge and actions taken towards reducing risk associated with large earthquakes. The proposed work will obtain information that provides feedback on HayWired scenario science and outreach to WGSC and SAFRR, as well as results to help determine which strategies are most likely to be effective in long-term efforts to innovate the application of science and transferable to other settings in future projects.
