Grant Description
The US Geological Survey is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner to provide collaborative research for field observational and numerical modeling studies to measure and predict physical oceanographic and sediment transport processes in a tidal inlet. Research objectives include numerical investigations on the sediment dynamics in an inlet to predict the equilibrium conditions of inlet morphodynamic evolution for a given set of tidal prism and wave conditions. The numerically simulated morphodynamic evolution should be compared to observational data collected at a realistic tidal inlet with similar dynamics. The proposed study area is Matanzas Inlet, FL, a mixed regime inlet with a combination of waves and currents. This study area is one of the very few inlets in the East coast of Florida not stabilized by jetties and the least affected by human interventions.
