Grant Description
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Fort Collins Science Center (FORT) is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner in support of a project to georeference USGS museum specimens located at the Museum of Southwestern Biology (MSB) on the University of New Mexico Albuquerque campus. The USGS specimens cover a temporal range of over >100 years, are diverse taxonomically (>800 taxa), and primarily document the fauna of Federal lands in the West. The collection consists of 5,000 lots of fishes, 12,500 amphibians and reptiles, 3,100 birds, and over 26,000 mammals. There are also more than 3,000 frozen tissues of mammals. The specimens are primarily from Federal lands in the western Great Plains, Rocky Mountains, and Intermountain West.
