Grant Description
The USGS is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research related to the ecology and dynamics of native and invasive riparian vegetation associated with rivers in western USA. Two areas with particularly strong research and management needs are: 1) understanding factors controlling the distribution and spread of invasive species including Siberian Elm (Ulmus pumila) and Russian olive (Elaeagnus angustifolia), and the response of riparian ecosystems to control or removal of invasive species such as tamarisk (Tamarix spp.); and 2) estimating potential responses or documenting actual responses of riparian vegetation to changes in streamflow and sediment regimes associated with climate change, water management, and dam removal.
