Grant Description
The US Geological Survey is offering a funding opportunity to partner of the Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU) for the purpose of conducting regional-scale investigations on effects of land management and ecosystem carbon sequestration. The overall objective is to conduct a multiple-site assessment, focusing on ecological carbon storage and GHG fluxes under the present conditions and future scenarios, as determined by key natural and anthropogenic processes including climate change, wildfire, other natural disturbances, land use, and land management. A central hypothesis of the study is that conservation policies such as national parks and national wilderness designations would avoid loss of existing carbon stock and increase carbon sequestration, at the same time as they are beneficial to habitat conditions and biodiversity.
