Grant Description
U.S. Geological Surveyкs (USGS) Great Lakes Science Center is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research on Avian Botulism in Distressed Great Lakes Environments. This research will characterize the underwater environments of areas affected by avian botulism by describing benthic and zooplankton species assemblages and analyzing fish diet items in an effort to food web linkages. The ultimate goal is to understand the factors that result in transfer of botulinum toxin through the food chain so that management strategies can be developed to prevent outbreaks from occurring, which will be a great benefit to restoration efforts for Great Lakes ecosystems.
