Grant Description
The US Geological Survey is offering a funding opportunity to conduct research on Future precipitation effects on fire frequency in the south central U.S. The goals of this research will include: 1) utilizing existing climate data and downscaled future climate projection data to model changes in fire frequency and probability across Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico 2) identification of locations in this region where climate-fire thresholds will exist, indicating significant ecosystem shifts, especially desertification 3) identification of locations with greatest and least changes in fire frequency 4) producing digital maps displaying changes in the mean fire intervals and probabilities of fire (increase or decrease) under one or more projected future climate scenarios and time intervals for the region.
