Grant Description

DISASTER RECOVERY ACT FUNDS - The US Geological Survey, Estuarine Physical Response Project, is offering a funding opportunity for a two-year effort investigating the interaction between hurricanes, estuarine sediment transport, and ecological function in back-barrier estuaries. The landfall of Hurricane Sandy impacted several estuaries on the US East Coast, and the effect on estuarine physical processes is largely unknown. Additionally, these estuaries are characterized by shallow expanses susceptible to wind-wave resuspension, high turbidity, and extreme tidal currents at the deeper inlets. The influence of storms on these aspects of estuarine processes is poorly understood.
